Review “The Drum” 2005

“Have I mentioned how much I like hearing an Australian accent in recordings? Anousha’s EP is very folky, and dreamy, and is like a breath of fresh air. Inaugural Folk Artist of the Year in 1233 ABC Newcastle Music Awards, Victoria has toured extensively from Hobart to Cairns and I can picture her performing very comfortably at our own Woodford Folk Festival. This EP has captured a live feel and does justice to Anousha’s haunting vocals. Here she combines folk/jazz finger picking with cello, violin, bass and percussion. The title track, “Icarus” retells the Greek myth of the man who flew too close to the sun and compares it to her own relationship. Okay, so its a bit girly but sometimes that works. Acapella song, “Her Love Will Not Return” won Anousha first place in the World/Theatre/Gospel category of the same awards.”
